Overwatch metas evolve so much faster than any of us can see. With many balance patches, hero reworks, and meta swings, the “best hero” shifts so quickly. Whether you're grinding comp or just picking your comfort picks, understanding where each hero stands in the meta helps you climb, win, and maybe tilt less.
We'll be running through the complete Season 20 tier list that ranks every Overwatch 2 hero by overall value, map presences, and impact on all game modes.
S-tier heroes can consistently turn a match. Many are high-mobility DPS heroes in Overwatch, doing well in every composition. These heroes often control the meta and remain valuable whether you're playing solo queue or in teams. They are some of the most impactful heroes in the game right now.

These Agents control team fights using their shields, mobility, and ultimates. Sigma does well with pressuring with range, while Winstron does well in dive-heavy strategies. And D.Va shines at backline attacks and absorbing your opponents' ultimates. Super has quickly become a meta-defining tank, offering unmatched frontline presence and durability that allow his team to push through the heaviest chokepoints.

In a world full of DPS characters, these fast DPS shooters can break enemy formations alone. Tracer is one of the best DPS characters since the release of Overwatch, with insane burst and tracking potential on the enemies; all these traits make her a very dangerous hero. Sojourn continues to shine with his Railgun lethality and movement.

These supports can turn fights with burst healing, mobility, and crazy ultimates. Illari can carry a team when you play her aggressively, while Kiriko's teleport and healing utility make her a good agent in dive and brawl comps. Juno has also cemented her spot at the top; her Hyper Ring provides crucial team mobility, and her orbital support offers both healing and damage pressure that fits perfectly into the current fast-paced meta.
These heroes are strong in most metas but may need more coordination or can be countered by specific picks.

The newest agent in Overwatch 2, Vendetta, introduces a melee-focused DPS style. She does well in close-range fights, flanking, and doing combos that punish enemies that're close together. Venture is also a strong pick here, using their Smart Excavator to burrow and disrupt enemies from unexpected angles, making them excellent for brawl compositions. Freja brings lethal precision to the roster; her moth-like aerial mobility allows her to take unique angles, though she requires high mechanical skill to maximize her value.

These tanks provide frontline stability and high survivability. Reinhardt shines in brawl-heavy maps with his abilities, offering 10/10 playstyles and roster presence. But Orisa still provides better shielding defense and excels in comps that need frontline pressure. Ramattra brings flexibility with hybrid forms for long pushes but has been recently nerfed. Despite that, he is good and does well in many team comps.

This is a beginner-friendly, all-around DPS with serious mid-range damage, self-sustain, and tactical abilities. He’s a solid pick in many metas because of his straightforward playstyle.

These support characters offer healing, utility, and clutch potential. Ana and Baptiste do well in burst healing and anti-healing, Mercy keeps high-damage carries alive, Lúcio controls tempo, and Zenyatta offers damage amplification and steady ranged threat.

These DPS heroes do well in specific maps or well-coordinated teams. Hanzo provides mid-to-long-range pressure. Pharah dominates open maps, and Genji shines at flanking and punishing bad positioning.
These heroes are reliable in some situations, but mostly struggle in the current meta. These picks have been weakened by nerfs, and abilities like Sleep Dart and high mobility enemies can counter them.

These characters are compelling in brawl-heavy teams but are often challenged by dive-heavy comps. Briggitte gives armor, AoE healing, and frontline protection, making her a very situational pick when tanks need peel. Her abilities also include crowd control, which can cancel flankers and protect squishier teammates, giving teams time to regain positioning or secure objectives.

These heroes do well in melee or tank-focused fights but are weak to ranged poke and mobility. Junker Queen does well in close-range fights. Reaper melts tanks.

These are high-skill DPS heroes who shine in disruption and zoning, while Echo delivers high burst damage but struggles against coordinated counters to her.

These characters stand out in specific maps, defensive setups, or tight spaces. They were strong in Overwatch and have become weaker in Overwatch 2. While they may not have the best win rate, they remain suitable for certain comps. But they can feel less effective in open maps.
These Agents are not meta-defining Heroes. They need unusual strategies or particular conditions to be useful.

What these three tanks have in common is that they are aggressive and they excel in chaotic matches, but they don't do well when faced with teams with excellent coordination and good strategies.

Widowmaker and Junkrat currently only excel in specific situations. Still, when matched with players who are coordinated enough and are good in the game, these heroes quickly crumble and get destroyed.
