When you start playing Stardew Valley, you’ll meet Linus, a reserved old man who wholeheartedly embraces nature and independence. But sometimes, even a hermit like him needs someone he can trust, someone willing to help him out without expecting anything valuable in return, except genuine friendship.
If you want to be that someone, keep reading, and we’ll help you get the chance to become his friend.

On the 8th day of Fall in your first year, you’ll receive a letter from Linus saying that it’s blackberry season, but he’s lost his basket, and he’s asking for your help to find it. Regardless of your friendship level or relationship with him, every player will get this quest.

The location isn’t too difficult to find, so don’t worry if you haven’t mastered the valley’s map yet.
Starting from your farm, just head to the Bus Stop area by exiting to the right. Walk toward the bus station, but don’t get on the bus. Continue walking west along the road, past the bus and the minecart, until you enter a new area that shows the lower part of the Backwoods.
Now, you might notice that the quest can be a little tricky because the basket’s color blends in with the bright oranges and browns of the grass, bushes, and stone walls that come with the fall season.
But don’t worry! Just keep walking toward the tunnel entrance, and at that exact spot, you should be able to see the missing basket sitting on the upper side of the road, right between the two large bushes near the tunnel.
Click on the basket to add it to your inventory. Once you have it, find Linus so you can give it back to him.

Now that you have the basket, finding Linus is the final critical step to finishing the quest.
As you get to know Linus, you’ll learn that he doesn’t live in the central part of Pelican town. Instead, he stays in a small tent behind Robin’s house, just near the Mines.
You’ll usually find him near his tent, but like every other villager in Stardew Valley, Linus’ location and daily routine can change depending on the time, weather, season, and sometimes even your progress in the game. Fortunately, Linus keeps a simple routine and seldom wanders far from his tent.
Still, it’s wise to check his schedule first on the day you plan to return the basket so you can easily find him. For that, the Stardew Valley Wiki is your bible.
By returning his blackberry basket, Linus will finally be able to go blackberry picking again, and as a reverent forager, he’ll deeply appreciate your help. In return, you’ll earn one friendship heart with him. Keep building your relationship so you can learn more about Linus, unlock unique dialogue, and receive items that may not seem valuable at first but can become truly priceless for your character’s journey.
